Afang, Gnetium Africanum (wild spinach), is a dark green leafy vegetable commonly found in the rainforests of West Africa. Igbos also call it okazi/ukazi leaf. Cameroonians call it Eru or Fumbua while in Gabon they call it Nkumu and Congolese refer to it as KoKo. It is a perennial plant having thick leaves with a texture like paper and grows in vines. In Nigeria, the Igbos most commonly use afang leaves in many of their local cuisines as it add a unique flavour and taste to dishes.
